This wedding entailed a lot of firsts for me, and I loved every second of it. Jarad reached out to me about planning this Jewish wedding in St Thomas to his beautiful fiancé, Shayna. This was one of the rare occurrences in which the groom did most of the planning, and Jarad truly nailed it. Their wedding was planned for May of 2018, and was held in the beautiful synagogue in downtown St. Thomas. This was the first time that I’d planned a wedding for this venue, and learning about the culture and history of the Synagogue was awesome.
Shayna and Jarad’s ceremony included a lot of Jewish traditions, including the signing of the Ketubah, saying their vows under the Chuppah, the breaking of the glass, and much more. I learned so much about Jewish culture, and cannot think of a better couple to have learned from.
After the ceremony, the wedding party and guests made their way to Sunset Grille for their reception, where food, fun, and more traditions awaited. One of my favorite aspects of the reception was the Challah, a beautifully braided bread that was baked by Shayna’s mom, who brought all of the ingredients with her from the states and baked it here in St Thomas. The reception also included the famous chair dance, the Hora, where both bride and groom were lifted up in chairs while friends and family encircled them while dancing. What a blast! Be sure to check out some of my personal favorite pictures from their big day throughout the post.
This Jewish wedding in St Thomas was a blast to plan. Shayna and Jarad put down their retainer in the midst of my preparations for the storms that decimated the islands. They were extremely understanding of the situation the island was going through and they didn’t once consider changing their wedding. I’ll always be grateful for them for sticking with us through the hardest time my business has gone through to date!
