I’m Laysha.
Hiiiiiiiii! I’m the cooler of the two sisters who run this business. I started Irie Matrimony in 2012, and Christina (see below) is my big sister. She made the move from Georgia to St. Thomas in 2020 to help me keep this crazy little dream running. All jokes aside, I can’t imagine Irie Matrimony without her.
Anyway, back to me…
I moved to St. Thomas in 2010 because I was ready for something different than life in Gainesville, Georgia. What started as a change of scenery quickly became home. Since then, I’ve adopted more animals than I should probably admit, collected an unreasonable number of plants, survived two hurricanes (Irma and Maria… rude), made it through COVID, and helped create hundreds of weddings ranging from beautifully simple to wonderfully chaotic.
Somewhere along the way, my sister and I built a business we genuinely love and bought the most beautiful home on the island. Not a bad trade for taking a chance on a new adventure.
When I’m not planning weddings, you’ll usually find me scrolling social media, adding yet another plant to my collection, hanging out at the beach, loving on my animals, or doing absolutely nothing productive at all. I firmly believe that life is better with sunshine, saltwater, good music, and people you love.
The best part of this job isn’t the flowers, the décor, or even the beautiful views. It’s the fact that I get to know our couples and help them create a wedding that actually feels like them. Every couple has a story, and I still think that’s pretty cool after all these years.
I’m Christina
Hi! Despite what Laysha says, I’m obviously the favorite sister.
Unlike my little sister, I spent most of my life in Gainesville, Georgia. In fact, I had never lived anywhere else until 2020 when I packed up my life and moved to St. Thomas to help with the business she had built. It was a big change, but it didn’t take long for me to fall in love with island life.
Sunshine, saltwater, and a shorter commute definitely didn’t hurt.
Since moving here, I’ve had the privilege of helping plan hundreds of weddings, and I’ve discovered that I genuinely love being part of such an important time in people’s lives. While Laysha is busy bringing beautiful designs to life, I’m usually the one helping couples navigate the planning process, answering questions, keeping everyone organized, and making sure all the little details come together the way they should.
My favorite part of this job is getting to know our couples. Every wedding is different because every couple is different. I love hearing how people met, what is important to them, and helping create a wedding experience that feels like their story instead of someone else’s Pinterest board.
When I’m not working, you’ll usually find me spending time with my family, loving on our many pets, planning my next trip, or watching entirely too many crime shows. I’m a proud mom, an even prouder Ya Ya to five amazing grandchildren, and I never get tired of a good beach day.
I never imagined I’d leave Georgia after all those years, but moving to St. Thomas turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I get to live in a beautiful place, work alongside my sister, and help couples celebrate one of the happiest days of their lives. That’s a pretty great combination if you ask me.
