10 Things NOT TO DO While Planning Your Wedding
Things not to Do While Planning Your Wedding
We’re always reading posts on “How to Plan the Perfect Wedding,” “Do This for your Wedding,” Etc. We don’t see a lot of posts on things not to do while planning your wedding. Planning your wedding is going to be one of the most fun things that you do in your life. It’s also one of the most stressful. Here is a list of things not to do while planning your wedding that will help with the stress.
1. DON’T FORGET YOUR GUESTS.
Yes, this is your day. Yes, it should be one of the happiest days of your life, but you’re throwing this important event to share with the people in your life that you love the most. When planning your wedding, imagine being a guest and experiencing each aspect. Would you want to attend this wedding as a guest?
2. DON’T FORGET TO RELAX.
This process is stressful, so make sure that you are taking time for yourself. Your wedding planning shouldn’t consume your life. It is a very important part of your life, but it’s important that you are being healthy. Less stress equals healthy!
3. DON’T CREATE UNREALISTIC BODY IMAGES.
We all have this vision in our heads of how we want to look in our pictures. Society also has an image that–most of the time–is unrealistic. It’s important that you are happy with who you are and how you look.
4. DON’T HIRE FRIENDORS.
I feel very strongly about this. There are several reasons why you shouldn’t hire your friends to work on your wedding day. The most important reason is that your guests want to celebrate this day with you. They shouldn’t have to work.
5. DON’T PUT UNREALISTIC EXPECTATIONS ON YOUR BRIDAL PARTY.
Your Bridal Party is there to stand up for you, stand up with you, and witness this beautiful exchange of vows. They are not there to be your servants. You chose these people because they are your closest friends and/or family. Love them. Appreciate them.
6. DON’T ENVISION UNREALISTIC IDEAS FOR THE WEDDING.
There are so many wedding pictures on social media, blogs, and other outlets that every bride could dream of. Don’t put pressure on yourself to have a wedding that all other weddings will bow to. Plan your wedding with your tastes and budget in mind. Your wedding planner can help you with getting the best bang for your buck.
7. DON’T RELY ON PINTEREST FOR EVERYTHING.
Pinterest is an AMAZING outlet to find ideas. The wedding that you plan on Pinterest is not going to be the wedding you have. As a wedding coordinator, I take my brides’ Pins along with their style and budget and make it something unique to them. Pinterest is a place to get inspired, not a place to plan your wedding.
8. DON’T FORGET TO BUDGET FOR EXTRAS LIKE GRATUITIES AND FAVORS.
There will be extra costs that will come up here and there, so don’t forget to budget for them. Gratuity is always something that is forgotten, but if your vendors did an excellent job, make sure you show your appreciation with a gift, whether or not it has monetary value. Here’s a blog with some nice info on when, how and how much to gift your vendors.
9. DON’T LEAVE TONS OF TIME BETWEEN THE WEDDING AND RECEPTION.
Remember that after your ceremony, there’s a good chance that your wedding planner and photographer have plans to take you and your bridal party away to do some photos, then they’ll take just you and your new spouse away. Don’t leave your guests hanging while this is happening. I always recommend a cocktail hour during this time.
10. DON’T FORGET WHY YOU’RE DOING THIS.
You chose to plan this event to celebrate the love that you have for the most amazing man or woman that you’ve ever met. You want to share this day with the people closest to you. Make sure that is the reason that you’re doing this. Don’t ever let that fact leave your mind.
This time of your life can be tough and stressful, but remembering these 10 things not to do while planning your wedding can definitely help you through it!
